The School of Biology and Food Engineering (SBFE) has 4 full-time undergraduate specialties -- Bio-pharmaceutical, Bioengineering, Food Science & Engineering, and Food Quality & Safety. In 2018, Bioengineering has achieved the approval of China Engineering Education Accrediation Association.

Of our 64 faculty members, 56% are professors and associate professors, and 63% are doctors. The number of full-time undergraduates now is over 1200. We boast a provincial excellent teaching team, a provincial sci-tech innovation group as well as 17 candidates among the provincial “333 High-level Talents Cultivation Project”, “Six Talents Peak Project” and “Qing Lan Project ”. In recent years, it has undertaken 15 national fund projects and set up 1 Jiangsu provincial basic biology experiment demonstration center, 3 student innovation experiment platforms, and 13 research and development platforms. We have 76 specialized laboratories with an floor area of nearly 11,000 square meters.

In 2018, approved by Jiangsu Education Department in China, we have developed a “1.5+2+0.5” dual-degree undergraduate program on Food Science with Troy University (USA). Each year the enrollment of undergraduate students is 30. We aim to cultivate excellent students with strong theoretical, application and research abilities in fields like biological products manufacturing, pharmacy & biotechnology as well as food processing & food safety to serve the development in Yangtze River Delta.
