The Faculty for Physical Education is an independent second-level department of Changshu Institute of Technology. It is a functional department for the organization of university sports activities. The Faculty for Physical Education currently has 38 teacher members, including 3 professors, 17 associate professors, 23 masters and 3 master tutors; 1 international referee, 3 national referees, and 8 national first-level referees. In 2019, the department has 12 scientific research projects under development, including a national social science fund project conclusion, a provincial key education reform project, and a provincial philosophical society project. In addition, the faculty of PE has more than 20 student sports associations and has won prizes nationwide. Among those, the Dragon Boat Team of CIT has won the silver medal in the National Games. The team of sports dance has won the first prize of the Students’ Sports Dance Competition in Jiangsu Province for ten consecutive years..
Facilities: The faculty of PE has 3 gymnasiums in the two campuses, with a total indoor area of about 12,000 square meters; the school's outdoor sports courts have 3 plastic track and field grounds, 33 basketball courts, 10 volleyball courts, 18 tennis courts, a roller-skating court, and a fitness corridor. The total outdoor sporting area is about 90,000 square meters.
Curriculum: The physical education course of Changshu Institute of Technology is a general course. Students must not only get 5.0 credits during four year’s undergraduate studying but also meet the basic requirements of the National Student Physical Health Standard in order to graduate and get the degree. The PE Courses for freshman and sophomore last for four semesters, 1.0 credit per semester, a total of 4.0 credits. For the third-year students, PE course has 0.5 credit per semester, a total of 1.0 credit. PE courses normally include the basic and optional courses of physical education, health care and physical therapy courses, extracurricular physical exercise, the National Student Physical Health Standard and sports training courses.
