The School of Automobile Engineering (SAE) has 4 undergraduate majors—Automobile Service Engineering, Materials Processing, Controlling & Vehicle Engineering, and "3+4" Automotive Service Engineering, and 3 departments—Vehicle Engineering, Automotive Service Engineering, and Material Processing Engineering. The School has more than 1400 full-time students and 58 faculty members, among which 32 are doctors, accounting for 68% of the total.

SAE has built up 4 research innovation teams — Automotive Electromechanical Integration Technology, Advanced Material Connection & Surface Engineering, Interior Air Quality & Emission Control, and Lightweight Vehicle Structure & Reverse Engineering. It also has established the following research centers: Provincial Demonstration Center for Automobile Engineering Practice & Teaching, Suzhou Research Institution for New-Energy Fueled Intelligent Automobile Technology, and Suzhou Key Lab for Green & Intelligent Dismantling Equipment in Automobiles, etc. The total area of the experiment facilities is over 8,000 square meters and it cherishes total assets of more than RMB 26 million. With efforts from faculty members, our discipline and technical service ability are rising steadily. It has built subject research platforms such as Automotive Engineering Collaborative Innovation Center, New Energy Intelligent Vehicle Technology Institute, Suzhou Key Laboratory of Automotive Green Intelligent Disassembly Equipment, Institute of Advanced Materials, and Automotive Engineering Research Center.

To broaden international vision of the students, we have actively established partnership with overseas universities like University of Detroit Mercy (USA), North Carolina State University (USA), University of Hannover (Germany) and University of Wollongong (Australia). We have also established cooperation with international enterprises, institutions and associations like North American Chinese Society of Automotive Engineers. In 2018, E-racing team from Liverpool John Moores University (UK) came for tech-exchanges and cooperation with SAE's formula car team.
